From The Rhythm Junkies to The Rhythm Nation!
I started this website about 6 years ago now as
a way to promote my new band, as well as the activities of other groups I was friends with, such as Nightwolf. The trio ran it's course and I went on to put together a 10 piece horn band. The horn band was a lot of fun and a lot of work. It crashed and burned after a year under the egos of so many extremely talented people. The same day it disbanded, I put together The Rhythm Junkies with Curtis and Vincent. Vincent left and he was replaced by a great keyboard player, Tracy Stokes. Due to the usual creative tensions, I ended up leaving the band but they continue to be a force of nature! I have been lucky to have nearly always been associated with unimaginably talented people! I recently played a wedding with Kevin, Tom and Marc. Although I hadn't had the chance to play with Kevin and Marc in 5 years, and I had never played with Tom before, after a few rehearsals the wedding went off SO well. Since I know so many players, I decided that instead of settling for one band, I'll form The Rhythm Nation. As the name implies, The Rhythm Nation is a LARGE database of singers, guitar players, bassists, keyboard players, horn players as well as other drummers and percussionists I've played with. Depending on the gig, The Rhythm Nation may be a jazz trio, a Motown horn band or a rock band. What all the combinations will have in common is great vocals and great playing! Looks like we've found a keyboardist and bassist!
We've had our trials finding the right people for this band.
With Tracy and Ricky on keys and bass, respectively, we have an absolutely killer band! To update this post, Cole has taken Ricky's place on bass. He's awesome! Am I having fun!
The Rhythm Junkies have been together for about 2 1/2
months now, and it's been a ball! We've gone through some changes. Filling the bass spot with the right person has been a challenge. Vince started the journey with me and Curtis, and has moved on. We played our first show before we were even a month old and got requests for encores! I'll try to keep this blog updated. |
